Thank you to the author of "Mail Setup Debian4". I followed your instruction and only two glitches. At one point I needed to issue

chown -R cyrus:mail /var/lib/cyrus

in addition to the documented

chown -R cyrus:mail /var/spool/cyrus

The second glitch was the need to prefix the input to cyrus with a tag after

telnet localhost 143

I kept getting the message 'login BAD Please login first' after entering 'LOGIN testuser secret' until a little research indicated the I should enter something like 'a LOGIN testuser secret',

Thanks again. I'd tried following various other instructions on getting mail set up to no avail.
